TIPS FOR CHILDREN
Kids, the Internet is a very fun place that
let's you play games, watch cartoons, download music and talk
to friends, but along with the fun comes responsibility. Here
are some tips, that if you follow, will help you stay safe.
-
Never reveal any personal information
to anyone you talk to. This includes your name,
home address, phone number, the name of your school and
the time school ends. Also, never let anyone know that you're
home alone, or where your parents work. Once this information
has been revealed it's too late to do anything about it.
-
Inform your parents if something
that you come across online makes you feel uncomfortable.
-
Be careful with who you talk to
online. Many people lie about their age, and if
they're a boy or a girl. Sometimes a 32 year old man will
pretend that he's a girl the same age as you. He does this
so that you'll feel comfortable talking to him. Don't get
tricked by these people because they only want to hurt you.
-
Never agree to get together with
someone you "meet" online without your parents’
permission. If your parents agree to the meeting,
make sure that they come along with you and that you meet
them at a public place with lots of people.
-
Never respond to message boards
that are obscene, violent, or that make you feel uncomfortable
in any way.
-
Don't send pictures of yourself
to people you meet online. Also, don't post pictures of
yourself on websites.
-
Discuss with your parents what they
feel is inappropriate for you to do on the Internet.
Then follow their rules and guidelines. Always remember
that your parents love you and they just want you to be
safe.
-
There are a lot of "Adult"
only websites on the Internet, and You must be at least
18 years or older to be on them. Stay away from
these sites. You're parents don't want you to view the content
on those sites, and it is illegal for you to do so.
-
If someone harasses you online,
says anything inappropriate, or does anything that makes
you feel uncomfortable, tell your parents right away.
